GridPermit is an independent educational platform built to help U.S. homeowners understand residential solar permitting: what permit authority handles it, what documents and inspections are required, and which utility governs interconnection, for their specific city. We also run a separate, California-only illustrative savings calculator.

Solar Permit Guides

Our core product is a set of source-linked solar permit guides, with research on file for all 50 states. Every fact on a published guide links directly to the official source it came from and shows when it was last verified. See our Methodology for exactly how a guide earns publication. Coverage depth varies by location; California is currently our most complete state, and we say so plainly on our state-by-state coverage page rather than implying more national completeness than the data supports.

Educational Purpose (Calculator)

Separately, GridPermit provides a simple, clearly-labeled illustrative system-size estimate for California ZIP codes, based on standardized placeholder assumptions, not real utility rate data or property-specific analysis. We say so plainly on every page rather than implying more precision than the tool actually has; see our Methodology for the exact numbers used. Our goal is to offer transparent informational tools, with optional links to independent third-party solar marketplaces.

Independent Referral Model

GridPermit is not a solar installer, contractor, engineering firm, public utility, or government agency. We do not provide engineering calculations or binding price quotes. GridPermit partners with EnergySage, an independent solar marketplace, to help homeowners compare solar options; whether this partnership results in compensation to GridPermit has not yet been confirmed. If that changes, we will disclose it clearly on the page where the link appears and update this page to match.
